PUPPETS' SHOW IN PALERMO

Sicilian puppets are typical of the Sicilian tradition, the protagonists of a type of popular theatre called Opera dei Pupi.
The Opera dei Pupi tells epic stories, mainly based on the exploits of Charlemagne's paladins, such as Orlando and Rinaldo and other medieval heroes.
The elegant suits of armour are all handmade and are characterised by distinctive movements and expressive gestures.
Puppet opera shows were very popular in Sicily in the 19th and 20th centuries for their dramatic tales of struggles between good and evil, ideals of loyalty and justice.
The Opera dei Pupi is part of the UNESCO cultural heritage and some artisans continue to create puppets to keep this translation alive.
We have chosen the Palermo International Museum for your performances, combining a visit to this beautiful museum with the puppet show.
It lasts about 2 hours and before the show you can admire a large collection of Sicilian puppets and marionettes from various countries, such as Indonesia, India and Japan.
