La Valle dei Templi
Local guide recommended
The Valley of the Temples with its 1,300 hectares is the largest archaeological park in the world. Built in the 5th century B.C. in the immediate vicinity of the important city of Agrigento to celebrate the victory over Carthage, it is, together with the splendid Syracuse, one of the most important treasures left by the Greeks.
The ten Doric temples of the Valley of the Temples are laid out, one after the other, on a low hill over a distance of about 1,200 metres.
Of all the temples, that of Concordia stands out, which has defended itself well against the wear and tear of the centuries, not least because in the 5th century AD it was used as a place of worship by the Christians of the time.
Also fascinating is the Kolymbethra Garden in the heart of the Valley of the Temples.
The garden is full of beautiful trees and lush vegetation

La Scala dei Turchi
Guide unnecessary
The Scala dei Turchi is a beautiful cliff overlooking the sea.
Its natural steps, shaped over the centuries by wind, sea and other atmospheric factors are a breathtaking sight with their dazzling whiteness due to the rocky sediment from which this splendid cliff is composed: marl.
Legend has it that the 'Turks' used this natural staircase to climb to Sicily.
In the 16th century, the Scala was used as a gateway for the Turks, who embarked on a massive plundering operation.
However, this name is a historical approximation, as these were not Turks but Saracen pirates.
The place was made even more popular by the writer Andrea Camilleri. In fact, his famous hero, Superintendent Montalbano, visits the Scala dei Turchi in one of the novels recounting his adventures.
This visit gave rise to a superb description that has toured the world
